Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered the concerted, drastic and effective implementation of solutions to prevent and control diseases of livestock and poultry as the risk of spread continues.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development was to coordinate with other ministries, sectors and localities to focus on promoting and inspecting disease prevention and control in localities; and closely monitor the epidemic situation to ensure early detection and warning as well as careful management of epidemics.

The Ministry of Health should provide professional and technical guidance, strengthen inspection and supervision of the prevention and control of diseases transmitted between animals and humans while the Ministry of Industry and Commerce should strengthen management of the market, proactively and strictly detect and deal with cases of transport and trade in animals and products of unknown origin on the market.

According to statistics, between January and June, African swine fever was reported in 410 communes in 40 cities and provinces, with 17,400 animals slaughtered, up 53.74% year-on-year, while foot-and-mouth disease was observed in 44 municipalities in 13 cities and provinces, rabies in 34 cities and provinces, papular dermatitis in more than 60 municipalities in nine provinces and avian influenza A/H5N1 in seven provinces. Notably, one person died following infection with the avian influenza A/H5N1 virus and another with the avian influenza A/H9N2 virus. -VNA
