The polio vaccination campaign was symbolically launched in the Lembo health area, located in the Mobayi-Mbongo territory. According to the figures provided, 369,285 children aged 0 to 59 months are expected for this vaccination in the eleven health zones of the province.

Dr. Jerry Kibanza Kyungu, chief medical officer of the provincial health division in North Ubangi, announced that this campaign constitutes the second phase of vaccination against wild poliovirus, extending from June 13 to 15 across the entire province. .

“This campaign aims to vaccinate all children aged between 0 and 59 months door-to-door. In addition to polio vaccination, it includes vitamin A supplementation for children aged 6 to 59 months. and administration of Albendazole for those aged 12 to 59 months,” Dr. Kibanza said.

He precised :

“The total target for OPV is 369,285 children aged 0 to 59 months. For vitamin A, the campaign targets 330,307 children aged 6 to 59 months, and for Albendazole, 291,129 children aged 12 to 59 months over the entire extent of the North Ubangi province.”

North Ubangi is one of ten provinces in the DRC affected by epidemics of circulating type 2 variant poliovirus, imported from Angola and the Central African Republic since May 2017.
