Theater workshops in geriatrics – Poitiers University Hospital website

On the initiative of Dr Isabelle Migeon-Duballet, geriatrician and head of the Maillol long-term care unit (USLD), the cognitive-behavioral unit (UCC) and the reinforced accommodation unit (UHR ), a theater project is taking place at the geriatrics center.

Aimed at UCC patients and USLD and UHR residents with memory disorders, these workshops meet different objectives: recover memories and work on cognitive functions, regain self-esteem , self-awareness, restoring identity, rediscovering the pleasure of playing, even going on stage.

This ethical approach, which changes the way patients are viewed, falls within the framework of non-drug therapies.

An agreement was established with the Caméléon workshops, a professional entertainment company created in 1987, for fifteen workshops aimed at around ten participants. Ideally, patients and residents are paired with staff from the geriatrics center: facilitator, senior information officer and caregivers.

The director, Dominique Maury-Vaucelle, provides advice both in the artistic and educational fields. She is responsible for writing and directs the participants’ improvisations.

If possible, a theatrical performance in the form of a show will close these workshops at the end of June 2024.
