Russia: oil depot on fire after Ukrainian drone attack

An oil depot was on fire Friday morning in the Russian region of Tambov, several hundred kilometers from the border with Ukraine, following an attack by a Ukrainian drone, said the regional governor, Maxim Egorov.

“At 4:35 (01:35 GMT) in the Michurinsky district of the Tambov region, a drone flight towards an oil depot was registered,” he first said in a statement published on Telegram.

“A small fire then broke out. Currently, the fire is localized,” he added, specifying that there were “no victims to deplore” after this attack.

The Russian Defense Ministry, as usual, did not report this attack on an energy infrastructure, but claimed to have “intercepted” 25 Ukrainian explosive drones during the night over its territory, without however at this stage mentioning the Tambov region.

The governor of the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz, said on Telegram that a drone had been shot down, but that its fall had “partially damaged the roof of the administration building” in this region bordering Ukraine.

Ukraine, which has been facing a Russian offensive for more than two years, regularly responds by attacking Russian regions, particularly targeting energy sites and what it claims are sites used by the Russian army for its operations targeting Ukrainian soil.

Kyiv has promised to bring the fighting to Russian soil in retaliation for the numerous bombings by Russian forces against its cities and energy infrastructure.
