a week of dishes to get off to a good start

We don’t know about you, but for our part, this gloomy weather makes us want to indulge in some comfort food. But it’s starting to take a long time, so to get back into good habits, we tested the “Back on Tracks” program from Foodmaker.

You may know Foodmaker for their salads and bowls sold in supermarkets, or in one of their locations. They offer healthy meals to take away and eat easily. Salads, bowls or even meals to reheat, for lunch and dinner. Curious to discover new dishes, but above all, feeling the need to get off to a good start, Zoé, web editor and social media manager at Flair, tested the brand’s “Back on Tracks” program.

The “Back on Tracks” program

For those who would like to eat healthier, but don’t know where to start, Foodmaker has launched its “Back on Tracks” program. A program that is structured around five pillars: diet, exercise, sport, rest and state of mind. The idea of the program is to get back on track with a healthier lifestyle. For this, Foodmarker provides, in addition to one or two weeks of meals, a booklet to follow your progress. The application is also very useful for continuing a healthy diet afterwards.

There are two different programs depending on what suits us best: a 1,200 kcal or 1,800 kcal program. Women will rather choose the 1,200 kcal program, unless they are active, while men, who naturally need more energy, will take the 1,800 kcal program.

Then, you just have to choose whether you want to follow the program for one or two weeks. One week is the ideal starting point to feel fitter and more energetic, while the two-week program allows you to ingrain eating and exercise habits into your daily life. Meals are delivered twice a week, to benefit from the freshness of the bowls every day.

What we thought

I love to eat and I’m always curious to try new things. I had already tried a few Foodmaker dishes, and I couldn’t wait to try more. I tend to often have more when I like a dish, so having portions already made seemed like a good idea to be able to get back into good eating habits. I opted for the one-week program, because my schedule did not allow me to do the two weeks.

Physically, I go running twice a week, I sleep eight hours a night (more or less) and I try to improve my morale when I have the opportunity. I also drink at least two liters of water per day and I walk whenever I can, so in that regard, I was quite calm, and I didn’t have to make a big effort.

When I received my box, I was surprised by the diversity of the dishes. For a week, I ate different bowls for lunch and dinner. For breakfast, it was an alternation of porridge and yogurt and fruit.

The first day, I was a little surprised by the portions, I found them very small. Once again, I tend to fill my plate a lot, so I told myself that it was ultimately the “normal” portions that I should eat. When it came to pasta dishes, on the other hand, I added a portion of vegetables on the side or raw vegetables, to have balance on the plate. I followed the 1,200 kcal menu, and I still found it a little low for my pace of life.

At the end of the week, I realized that I could have continued for another week. As a restaurant fan, I was more than won over by Foodmaker’s offerings. There were as many vegetarian, meat and fish dishes. I had to add salt to a few dishes, and I “pimped” others with a few avocados or vegetables, but overall everything was very complete. And the portions that seemed small at first ended up filling me up. The secret is to wait ten minutes after the bowl is over, and you realize that you have had absolutely enough to eat. The small negative point remains the breakfast options. I really liked the porridge (to which I added fresh fruit), but the yogurt a little less.

Finally, thanks to the program, I pay attention to the quantity on my plate and I avoid refilling, except in cases of extreme hunger. The notebook provided with the bowls is also fun to make, and allows you to track your water consumption or your mood over the days. A great exercise to do every day.
