With the start of the austral summer and favorable conditions for the proliferation of mosquitoes, chikungunya makes a reappearance. This Friday, November 8, the regional health agency (ARS) confirmed three new cases: two in Saint-Gilles, and one in Etang-Salé.
The latter city turns out to be unrelated to the previous cases, most of which were located in Saint-Gilles. Since August 23, 14 cases have been verified by the ARS.
12 cases reported in Saint-Gilles were grouped into two outbreaks (clusters of cases), one in the Aigrettes district (7 cases) and the other in Ermitage (4 cases). The thirteenth being an isolated case, unrelated to previous cases.
“The number of cases remains low, but the latest cases were reported after several weeks without reporting: this situation demonstrates low-noise traffic, which must lead us all to exercise the greatest caution”warns the ARS.
