Tuesday, October 29, the Beaune Hospital Center hosted a “no tobacco day” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., aimed at raising public awareness of the dangers of smoking and launching the “No Tobacco Month” campaign. Through this initiative, the establishment sought to encourage visitors and patients to consider quitting smoking, by recalling the consultations offered by its addiction service.
Around a hundred visitors
During this day several stands were open to the public, such as an information, tasting and physical activity space with a carbon monoxide test. On site, several health professionals from the hospital center – dietitians, addictologist, midwife, and adapted physical activity teacher – participated in this day alongside local partners such as the Côte-d’Or committee of the League against cancer, the CPTS (territorial professional health community) Sud Côte-d’Or, Health Promotion Burgundy-Franche-Comté and the Tab’agir association. Together, they hosted various information stands and workshops in the hospital reception halls.
On this occasion, around a hundred visitors were able to test their knowledge of smoking through an interactive quiz, assess their level of dependence using a carbon monoxide tester, and leave with quit smoking kits. Physical activity workshops suitable for everyone were also offered to remind people of the benefits of sport in a weaning process.
Concrete tools to consider quitting smoking
At 11 a.m., a collection of cigarette butts was organized near the establishment, where volunteers collected around 1,200 butts in a short time, illustrating the extent of the pollution generated by smoking.
This mobilization made it possible to offer the public a kind welcome and concrete tools to consider quitting smoking. On the eve of “No Tobacco Month”, the Beaune Hospital Center and its partners hope to have helped everyone to envisage a tobacco-free future.
