Here is THE innovative solution against mosquito bites: the Mosqitter Mini, a machine that attracts and traps them.

Help, the mosquitoes are back. For several days, several departments, notably in Occitanie and Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur, have been on maximum alert in the face of the proliferation of tiger mosquitoes. Faced with this scourge, there are an increasing number of technological solutions.

Much more effective than sprays, UV lamps or ultrasonic sockets, the usefulness of which is questionable, RMC predicts a big success for the Mosqitter mini, a mini mosquito vacuum cleaner. It’s a little box to put on the terrace table on a summer evening. And this little box will irresistibly attract and trap all the mosquitoes in the surrounding area, without using any chemicals.

How does this machine work?

For this, this little box will actually imitate human behavior: what makes mosquitoes bite us? They are attracted by our breathing, the CO2 that we emit. And this small device will generate CO2, simulate human breathing, to which an olfactory lure is added. Once the mosquito approaches, it is mercilessly sucked inside the terminal, where it is trapped with its peers.

Once trapped, the female mosquito can no longer reproduce, and therefore there is an extinction of mosquitoes in the area. When we know that a female can lay 200 eggs every 48 hours, we see the benefit. The device would eliminate 93% of mosquitoes and will cost 150 euros. It is currently in production and should be released in the coming months. The technology already exists, but in the form of much larger boxes, intended more for professionals, in hotels or municipalities. Offered among others by a French company called Qista.

In the areas where the device was tested, mosquito bites were divided by 10. The city of Marseille, for example, was equipped with them to install them in its nurseries, and certain schools also in the south of France. but also in Reunion, where the problem is on a completely different scale. It must be remembered that the mosquito is the deadliest animal in the world, by far.

A laser mosquito detector

Another more artisanal solution: crush the mosquito with a cloth, you still have to find it on the wall. A startup has developed Bzigo, a laser mosquito detector. It is a small smart camera that can detect the shape of a mosquito on the wall. Once found, it will follow it with a laser beam and even send you an alert on your smartphone, if you are not in the room at that time, all you have to do is crush it.

Last option: glasses that repel insects… It is a French SME, 15-1 distribution, based near Reims, which has developed these special frames, made of a patented material which uses micro-encapsulation. A technique which consists of enclosing a product (in this case an insect repellent) in microparticles, which can be integrated either on the surface or in the heart of the material, whether plastic, leather, wood or glass. And which will therefore diffuse the active ingredient, and give them properties and a particular fragrance, even if you wash them.

It is an odor that is very slightly perceptible to humans and is supposed to scare away insects. As for effectiveness, it will still be necessary to test, since they will be released during the year, under their brand but also in other ranges of glasses. Tomorrow, it will be an option that we can choose: anti-glare and anti-mosquito!

Above all, glasses are an example. This micro-encapsulation technology can be adapted to many other objects. It could be a camping tent that repels mosquitoes, a mattress or even a stuffed toy…
