A vaccination campaign launched in the Center-West

Cervical cancer and malaria are real scourges for the Burkinabe population, particularly in rural areas. Aware of this issue, the government has decided to strengthen prevention actions through a massive vaccination campaign officially launched on Saturday October 12, 2024, in Tenado, in the Center-West.

« Every two minutes, a woman dies worldwide from cervical cancer. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), each year, 530,000 new cases of cervical cancer are reported worldwide, more than 90% of them in developing countries. », decried Dr Robert Lucien Kargougou, minister in charge of health.

Initiated by the Sanguié Local Development Assistance Initiative Association (IDL), this campaign brings relief to mothers who suffer from cervical cancer. It covers nine municipalities in the region, including Koudougou, Kokologo, Sabou, Sapouy, Leo, Pouni, Tenado, and Didyr, and will take place from October 12 to 19, 2024.

According to Éva Francine Kanyala, project coordinator, this initiative intends to vaccinate 30,000 children and screen 5,000 women. “ In recent years, no one will say that they don’t know someone who has already had this problem, personally I know friends and aunts who have suffered from it, so that gave us the motivation to launch this second edition of the project. to fight cervical cancer “, she stressed.

Before finishing, the Minister of Health welcomed the initiative of the Local Development Support Initiative Association, which is in line with the government’s ambitions. He therefore urged people to go out en masse for the campaign.
