Making 3D reconstruction robust and efficient is the most important step the computer vision community can take to democratize the creation of digital twins, Meta says.
Through the application of neural networks and deep learning, the Meta team developed a technique to create an implicit representation of the object that is rendered at the time of visualization and redrawn with each change of angle of view.
The training algorithms for these models are constantly evolving with the goal of creating increasingly detailed digital twins, robust to different object types and lighting conditions, faster to process for real-time applications across a variety of devices or computing architectures, and ultimately more realistic for end users.
As part of a collaborative partnership between Shopify and participating merchants, a set of 3D assets will be leveraged to significantly enhance AI’s ability to generate accurate and detailed digital twins. Over the coming months, more than 7,000 digital twins will be made available as part of a university competition aimed at improving reconstruction algorithms.
