The Point sets down his suitcases again Friday October 11 and Saturday October 12. With the support of the City and Metropolis of Montpellier, the Region and MedVallée, the Opéra Comédie welcomes the 8th edition of Futurapolis Santé. This year, the forum, which offers around fifteen free conferencesinteractive activities and workshops, will revolve around the theme “ AI, tech, discovery – Health revolutions”.

The Artificial Intelligence revolution

Since 2017, Futurapolis Santé has invited renowned experts to present the latest advances in medicine and reflect on the world of tomorrow, particularly highlighting the importance of research and entrepreneurship. A health theme developed in its entirety through, for example, food, sport or the environment during conferences intended for the general public. The previous edition, on the theme “Cancer, longevity, sport: pushing the limits”, brought together more than 2,800 visitors.

For this 8th edition, on October 11 and 12, visitors to Futurapolis Santé will discover the possibilities offered by Artificial Intelligence. Diagnosis, improvement of treatments, their personalization or patient monitoring, new perspectives are opening up for pathologies such as cancer, diabetes or certain psychiatric disorders. “Although it is still difficult to grasp the full extent of the revolution linked to artificial intelligence and technologies in health, this forum will already allow us to discover many positive effects” presents Anne Jeanblanc, health journalist at Point.

Around fifteen conferences will reveal certain aspects of this “revolution” by addressing some of its aspects such as technological advances with mobile applications, portable monitoring devices or even the development of information technologies to facilitate data management in health establishments. “At Futurapolis Santé, the best experts will come to present the most significant advances in all aspects of care and look to the future… with optimism,” specifies the editorial manager of the event.

In the heart of MedVallée

Futurapolis Santé is also an opportunity to show the dynamics around medicine in Montpellier and Occitanie. “A reference territory at the international level in terms of global health thanks to the MédVallée strategy, which brings together health, food and environment stakeholders, the Montpellier Metropolis is particularly proud to host this new edition of Futurapolis Santé” enthuses Michaël Delafosse. Just like Carole Delga who recalls that this forum “fits perfectly into the dynamics of the Occitanie Region which is on the front line to support this progress with the adoption of a plan of more than €60M dedicated to Artificial Intelligence” and therefore the community has “the desire to work towards the creation, alongside the Montpellier Metropolis, of a unique ecosystem around the triptych “Feed, Care and Protect” embodied by the MedVallée dynamic”.

A strategy launched in 2021 which has already enabled the emergence of major structuring projects such as the creation of the Immun4Cure University Hospital Institute (IHU), the development of a Research and Innovation Center in Biology Health at the University Hospital of Montpellier or the extension of the INSERM Structural Biology Center. Several of the speakers at the conferences also come from MedVallée, such as Professor Christian Jorgensen, head of the clinical immunology unit at Montpellier University Hospital and director of the IRMB and IHU Immun4cure.

Activities and workshops

In addition to Artificial Intelligence, Futurapolis Health will also focus on genetics as a secret weapon of the scientific police, the need to make up for the gap in mental health, or even the undisputed star of medical research in recent years, the microbiota in presence of Nadine Cerf-Bensussan, Inserm Research Grand Prize 2023.

Two meeting spaces on the first floor of the opera will allow the public to continue discussions with conference speakers. Without forgetting in the home, workshops (phages and antibiotic resistance, mental health, female cancer, glaucoma, etc.) and, of course, the traditional activities which allow you to discover and test a large number of innovations developed by local start-ups or institutions such as the Montpellier University Hospital or the ICM. Support for diabetic patients, smartphone applications to get you moving at your own pace, human/horse relationship to manage post-traumatic shock, stroke prevention, etc.
