Prevention to better cure, detection to better care. In this rosy October, remembering a few fundamentals can’t hurt. Against breast cancer, mammography has proven to be the best weapon to date. In the absence of symptoms, it allows early lesions to be detected for rapid treatment. If detected early, breast cancer can be cured in more than nine cases out of ten, after a shorter and lighter treatment.
The screening rate in Haute-Loire is 11% higher than the national rate
If in the entire Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, we observe a drop in the participation of women in breast cancer screening (51.6% in 2022/2023 compared to 53.4% in 2021/2022), in Haute-Loire, 0.4% more have taken the step of making an appointment in an approved radiology center to carry out a mammogram and their additional examination (57.8% in 2022-2023 compared to 57.4% in 2021-2022), i.e. 6% more than the regional average and 11% more than at the national level.
As part of the national organized breast cancer screening program, women aged 50 to 74 are invited every two years by Health Insurance to have a 100% covered mammogram. For greater security, mammograms judged normal on the first reading are systematically reviewed by a second radiologist.
Today is the Chicken Race
Throughout the month of October, numerous events are organized to collect donations for the fight against cancer. This Sunday morning, from 9 a.m., in Yssingeaux, the Chicken Race takes place. All profits from the event will be donated to the League Against Cancer.
