. Taking care of herself, she decided, as soon as the first symptoms appeared, to make an appointment with the doctorconvinced that it’s nothing serious.

But the more time passes, the worse the symptoms become. In all, Jess will consult 20 times with four different doctorswithout ever knowing what she is suffering from. A long COVID will even be considered. It was only at the end of November 2020, after deciding to consult a specialist in a private clinic, that the young woman discovered the truth: she suffers from terminal cancer.

Worrying symptoms and doctors who don’t panic

It all started at the beginning of summer 2020, during which Jess would feel the first symptoms. She goes to her doctor, convinced that it is nothing serious. The latter will prescribe him antibiotics to a supposed

. But despite the treatment, the young woman’s condition deteriorates.

The months pass and the consultations multiply. Jess now presents a persistent cough, significant weight loss and extreme fatigue. However, doctors are not worried and some even mention a possible long COVID. However, Jess never tested positive for the virus. His state of health will continue to deteriorate and the doctors will stick to their initial diagnosis.

It will be too late for the young woman

It was only in November of the same year, after a consultation with an ENT specialist, that Jess finally knew what she was suffering from. The young woman has cancer. Indeed, Jess suffers from adenocarcinoma, a cancer of the mucus-producing glands. But that’s not the worst. The cancer has spread and is now affecting Jess’s stomach, spine, liver and lungs. The young woman died a few weeks later, just before Christmas.

Jess’s parents, devastated by the death of their daughter, decided to fight to prevent other families from going through the same thing. They are campaigning in particular for the establishment of Jess Lawa law that would require doctors to
review their diagnosis after three unsuccessful consultations. According to them, such a law would make it possible to avoid diagnostic delays in the case of cancers that are difficult to identify in young adults.
