More than 70 activities will be organized from October 7 to 13 as part of Mental Health Week in Wallonia, the Mental Health Reference Center (CRéSaM) announced Tuesday in a press release. These will aim to highlight support and care services, encourage intersectoral collaborations and raise awareness among the population about the importance of taking care of one’s mental health.

Last March, a survey conducted by the national public health institute Sciensano revealed that the proportion of people suffering from anxiety and depressive disorders had increased compared to the previous year. “The rate of anxiety increased from 18% to 19%, and the rate of depression increased from 15 to 17%,” it said, specifying that this slight increase was statistically significant.

To address this problem, which occupies a major place in our society, professionals from mental health and related sectors (CPAS, universities, associations, etc.) will open their doors to the public during this tenth edition of Mental Health Week in Wallonia.

Among the activities that will be offered, there are, among others, digital workshops, exhibitions, walks, conferences, webinars and training. They will be structured around three themes: “Hyperconnection and digital malaise”, “Young people, mental health and screens”, and, finally, “Mental health resources in the digital age”.

“We will shine a spotlight on mental health in relation to digital technology. Seen as both a vector of opportunities and risks, digital technology and its challenges affect all ages and all backgrounds,” noted the non-profit organization.
