Share the publication “Audiences and attendances, the Back 9 tournaments are a real success according to the DP World Tour”
Established for the first time on the DP World Tour, the Back 9, bringing together nine of the biggest tournaments at the end of the season on the DP World Tour, was, according to the same European Tour, a real success, both in terms of spin-offs television broadcasts as well as in terms of attendance on the different sites.
More than 400,000 spectators attended the tournaments Back 9 ranging from British Masters (August 29-September 1) at Genesis Championship (October 24-27) with a 7% increase in attendance at these events DP World Tour compared to those of the previous year.
Among these, the BMW PGA Championship3e Rolex Series of the season, contested at Wentworth (England) from September 19 to 22, recorded a record number of sold-out days and a 4% increase in total spectators compared to 2023. The British Masters also saw an increase of 3% compared to 2023. compared to last year, just like theIrish Open (+2 %).
L’Andalucia Masterswon after nine play-off holes by Frenchman Julien Guerrier, for his part, recorded an increase of 29% in the number of spectators compared to 2023. Increase also for theSpanish Open (+4%) and even for the FedEx Open de France (+6%), despite unfavorable weather conditions. It should also be noted the substantial increase in the number of spectators present on the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea from Incheon: 164%. A craze largely explained by the presence of the two star South Korean golfers, Byeong Hun An and Tom Kim, in this final tournament of the regular season.
The FedEx Open de France is full of audiences
For the six Back 9 tournaments (the Spanish Open, the Dunhill Links and theOmega European Masters are administered by private promoters) where the DP World Tour directly manages all consumer sales, including ticketing, high-end hospitality and merchandise, the increase in consumer revenue is in the order of 16% .
In terms of TV coverage, the nine tournaments of this same Back 9 saw their average audience live on Sky Sports increase by 13% compared to 2023. Among the most notable, we must cite theAlfred Dunhill Links Championship (+60% of the maximum audience on Sky Sports). The opposing play-off Rory McIlroy, Tristan Lawrence et Billy Horschel (pictured) resulted in a 65% increase in peak audience. Better yet, the FedEx French Open saw its peak live audience increase by 126% compared to 2023, and the Andalucia Masters saw a 14% increase in peak audience.
All these figures build on also a year of growth on social media for the DP World Tour, with the number of subscribers up 13% and interactions on social media up 15%!
