The world number 1 is up against a player he has already challenged three times on the main circuit: Mackenzie McDonald. Ranked 140th in the world, the American has, each time, been a serious rival for the Transalpine, snatching a set from him twice (in Washington in 2021 and in Paris-Bercy in 2023) without forgetting a nice showdown at Roland-Garros in 2022 (Sinner won 6-3, 7-6, 6-3).
