After several days of discussing his positive test for clostebol at the start of the year, the Italian player returned to the field against the American Mackenzie McDonald, during the New York Grand Slam.

Was he disturbed by the controversy? Caught up in the turmoil of his positive anti-doping test for clostebol during the Indian Wells tournament in March, at the end of which he was cleared by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), Jannik Sinner returns to business, during his first round of the US Open, Tuesday August 27 in New York.

The world number 1 is up against a player he has already challenged three times on the main circuit: Mackenzie McDonald. Ranked 140th in the world, the American has, each time, been a serious rival for the Transalpine, snatching a set from him twice (in Washington in 2021 and in Paris-Bercy in 2023) without forgetting a nice showdown at Roland-Garros in 2022 (Sinner won 6-3, 7-6, 6-3). Will Jannik Sinner have put the controversy aside before starting the last Grand Slam tournament in which he has never reached the semi-finals?
