After McDonald’s, Burger King, KFC… Another American fast food giant is planning to expand into France. According to information from BFM Business, this Monday, September 16, the Dairy Queen chain is preparing its arrival in France. Specializing in frozen desserts, the brand currently has 7,500 restaurants across the world. France “is a strategic market for Dairy Queen»confirmed to our colleagues Nicolas Boudet, the international general manager of the American brand.
For its establishment on French soil, Dairy Queen wishes to rely on a local partner in order to develop a franchise model. “Nothing is signed yet”but “We listen carefully to those who approach us”said Nicolas Boudet, who is looking for a group “experienced” and a regular at fast food. And the fast-food chain has great ambitions, as it aims to eventually open from 100 to 200 restaurants minimum.

Specializing in frozen desserts, Dairy Queen is famous for its flagship product, the “Blizzard”a type of whipped ice cream served in a large cup. The American chain also offers hot dishes, mainly burgers. The parent company International Dairy Queen, headquartered in Minnesota, has been owned since the late 1990s by the conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway, the investment company of American financier and billionaire Warren Buffett, our colleagues specify. In 2023, the company generated $6.37 billion in sales.
After unsuccessful attempts to establish itself in Europe, Italy and Slovenia, Dairy Queen opened restaurants in Poland in 2015. But this time again, the experiment ended in failure. “We had some failures”admitted Nicolas Boudet, who “helped us learn what not to do”. France could thus mark the (winning?) return of Dairy Queen to the Old Continent.
