Singer Sidy Diop faced the judge this Monday, August 26, at the Dakar flagrante delicto court for lack of a driving license and insurance.

For the lack of a driving license, the singer admitted the facts he is accused of before the judge and made his mea culpa. “I did not do it on purpose and this will not happen again” declared Sidy Diop. On the possession of false insurance papers, the singer said: “I did not know that the insurance is false. It is the one who sold me the car who gave it to me.”

His lawyer, Mr. Aboubacry Barro, is optimistic for his client, who has “shown humility.” Mr. Barro also adds: “He had to present the documents relating to the circulation of the vehicle. So, among these documents, there was an insurance, an insurance policy, which was not the right one. It was a false insurance policy, but he was given this policy. There, the investigation which will certainly continue, will determine this person who had to give this insurance policy.”

The prosecution requested acquittal on the benefit of the doubt for the offence of forgery. But the prosecution representative asked the court to declare Sidy Diop guilty of the offences of lack of licence and insurance. For the sentence, the prosecution relied on the wisdom of the judge.

The case will be deliberated in a few hours.

As a reminder, the artist was arrested by the gendarmes of the Hann Territorial Brigade during a routine check while he was driving his car without a license or insurance. Brought before the court last Tuesday, Sidy Diop was placed in custody the same day.
