On October 12, 2023, the lifeless body of a man was found by the gendarmes in a house uninhabited for several months in the town of Corcelles-en-Beaujolais. They quickly discovered that it was Marwan Berreni, famous actor from the series More beautiful lifewho was then suspected of having knocked down a passerby near Mâcon a few months earlier. This sudden death occurred after a number of threats and calls for help. In his work Two BrothersCharlotte Chaffanjon retraces the periods of fragility of the then 34-year-old actor: “It’s during the drunken evenings that the “crises” are the strongest, that the memory of his brother overwhelms him, that Marwan systematically ends up threatening: “I’m going to join Bilal.”“
Bilal, his little brother, died in 2013. An artist specializing in street art, he flew to Detroit, in the United States, to pursue his career. But it was in an abandoned building that the young man was shot and killed. Marwan Berreni never recovered: “Marwan is unemployed for the first time in his life. He takes advantage of it, he travels, the Basque Coast, Spain. With each person he meets, often strangers, sometimes tourists who don’t even know Abdel, he pales in Bilal’s face. It’s happening more and more often, it’s getting stronger and stronger. “I lost my brother, he was murdered”, he tells and confides: “I lost a half of me that I will never find again, I am no longer complete.”, describes Charlotte Chaffanjon in her book.

“Our house was the light. Everything was fine and I don’t know what happened. I say to myself in a family that has flaws, maybe that can be explained, but in ours? “, confides Marwan Berreni’s mother in the book. Before adding: “Nothing explains this. It’s true that there is a mystery with them.” Martine and Mourad Berreni, who lost their two sons ten years apart, remain devastated by these two tragic events.
