HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – The South Star Music Festival came to a bitter close after day one of the event.

The rain led to muddy and hazardous conditions, forcing festival organizers to pull the plug on day two.

One week later, Mayor Tommy Battle said the festival grounds were already being tended to.

“We’ve got a great crew who’s going to be working on it; our landscape crew. The big events are not happening for a couple of months so give us some time to get some sod in, get it rooted in as we say, and I think the grounds will be ready next spring. We’ll be ready to go again,” he said.

I also talked with people who either attended the festival or wanted to, but couldn’t because of the cancellation.

Many people said depending on the lineup, they’d be more than happy to attend the next festival.

Andrew Ols, a fan who attended the festival, had some recommendations for organizers for next year.

“My thought is, if you’re going to advertise ‘rain or shine’ and then it rains — and rain causes mud — then maybe don’t advertise rain or shine,” he said. “We get it, not every band can fill out other parts of the city, but have a contingency plan for it. Maybe there’s an alternate location and you can only do three bands, I dunno. I thought it was run pretty well and I would go back next year.”
