A firefighter intervention is underway this Thursday, October 10 around 3 p.m., at Strasbourg station. This is a “release of smoke on the locomotive of a train”, according to Sdis 67, which dispatched around twenty firefighters to the site.

This is a train which was leaving in the direction of Brussels, in which there were European parliamentarians and Parliament staff, as evidenced by several publications on social networks. Among the passengers stuck at the station, Emmanuel Foulon, spokesperson for the European Parliament reached by telephone, reported having heard “a fairly large boom” and seen “black smoke”.

The firefighters, however, report a “not very worrying” event. The passengers were evacuated. But traffic is interrupted, and will not resume until 6 p.m., according to SNCF.

On site, passengers receive little information. “There are a lot of firefighters here at the train station. Strasbourg – but very little information. Chaotic evacuation where people were only asked to leave their luggage on board when most had already left, with their luggage”reacted Pelle Geertsen, Norwegian MEP.

More information to come.
