The town of Bricquebec (Manche) was affected by torrential rain late in the evening of October 8, 2024. Several homes were flooded, firefighters continued pumping operations this Wednesday, October 9 in the morning.

Storm Kirk was not expected to hit but an unforeseen meteorological phenomenon struck the village of Bricquebec in the English Channel. A deluge of rain fell in the area causing flooding.

The storm hit northern Cotentin at the very beginning of the night. According to the Manche firefighters, the town center of Bricquebec was submerged by a meter of water. Some homes were flooded, emergency services noted up to 60cm of water in the houses. In the area, 13 people were evacuated, 5 were relocated.

In the west of the village, rue Saint-Roch, the intense rains affected 7 houses. Emergency services indicate that no rehousing was necessary. In total, 67 firefighters intervened 17 times in the sector. Reconnaissance operations resume this Wednesday, October 9 at 8 a.m. to pump out stagnant water in Bricquebec.

In Normandy, Météo France has also placed the departments of Eure and Orne on yellow alert for rain-flooding.
