Justin Gaethje Changes Tune on Dustin Poirier Trilogy Fight in ‘Bitter’ Confession on Fight Rumours

Former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier has been out of action since his devastating defeat to division king Islam Makhachev at UFC 302 last summer. Since then, ‘The Diamond’ has remained in the shadows, and rumors surrounding his retirement began to circulate, growing stronger when he joined ESPN as an analyst. However, just last month, Poirier reignited excitement among fans with his return, hinting at a potential trilogy with none other than his former rival, BMF title challenger Justin Gaethjewho remarked, “Trilogy?”

Since then, both Gaethje and Poirier have remained tight-lipped about their next steps. However, Gaethje recently spoke to ‘The Schmo,’ dismissing the idea of being a potential opponent for Poirier. He stated, “It could be anybody, you know? It could be me; it could be anybody. He’s a world-class fighter at the highest level, so anytime he fights, he’s spectacular alone. Obviously, we fought twice, so it makes sense, but I have no idea what’s going to happen.”

The Schmo didn’t stop there; he delved deeper to uncover Justin Gaethje’s thoughts on his “trilogy” with Dustin Poirier and its connection to Gaethje’s inner “satisfaction.” However, Gaethje stood firm in his remarks, stating, “He (Poirier) knocked me out. I mean, I am okay with that. I am sure that it’s a little bit more bitter since I was the last one to win, but it does not matter.”

Justin Gaethje‘s remark, though we might consider it unreliable, comes as he has no option other than Dustin Poirier. However, last month, Gaethje’s manager, Ali Abdelazizwas found attempting to set up a “red panty night” for Gaethje against UFC superstar Conor McGregorwho has been left without an opponent since Michael Chandler moved on to face Charles Oliveira.

Just like ‘The Diamond’, Justin Gaethje is also coming off a setback, which he experienced at the historic UFC 300 against former featherweight king Max Holloway earlier this year. Even after giving a tremendous performance, Gaethje fell short in front of the Hawaiian native. Now, he is looking for a way to bounce back from this blemish on his resume.

His manager, Ali Abdelaziz, who also manages “Team Khabib,” spoke to TMZ Sports, promoting Gaethje as the suitable opponent for Conor McGregor’s return to the octagon, as ‘Mystic Mac’ has been out of action for three years. Abdelaziz claimed, “I think Justin Gaethje can do whatever the f**k he wants. I would like him to fight Conor McGregor or Dan Hooker. That is what I would like to see him fight. He will get a title fight, and I will make sure Justin Gaethje will be the next number-one contender. You cannot deny what this man gave up to save UFC 300. He was the star of UFC 300.”
