Elected officials from Valorizon, the Lot-et-Garonne waste treatment union, will decide on January 29 on the increase in the cost of processing household waste. Four scenarios are considered, with increases between 43 and 63 euros per tonne.
The treatment of household waste will cost more in Lot-et-Garonne. On January 29, elected officials from the Valorizon treatment union will have to choose between four scenarios to deal with the inflation of costs linked to waste management. The increase, which will be between 43 and 63 euros per tonne processedwill mark a new jump after an increase of 22 euros last year. The current price of 191 euros will therefore be significantly revised.
The general tax on polluting activities is also increasing
Several meetings were organized on this subject. This Wednesday, January 15, the union's elected officials met again under the leadership of President Ludovic Biasotto, elected from the canton of Lavardac. It was on this occasion that the planned increases were presented to them, as reported by the daily Sud-Ouest.
Added to this increase is that of the general tax on polluting activities (TGAP), which will increase from 65 to 70 euros per tonne due to the Region's non-compliance with the waste reduction objectives set by the State.
-Lot-et-Garonne: a complicated decision on the cost of waste treatment
All communities in Lot-et-Garonne are affected by this increase, with the exception of the Agglomeration of Agenwhich is not a member of the Valorison union. The latter benefits from lower processing costs thanks to its incinerator, while Valorizon mainly bury them in Monflanquin or ship them elsewhere.
For elected officials, the dilemma is acute. The move to incentive taxes, which aims to reward citizens' efforts in sorting, complicates decision-making. And the approach of the 2026 municipal elections could also weigh on the vote, which will precede that of the budget organized a few days later.
