The F1 season is over but, behind the scenes, communication continues. And it was the former boss of Scuderia Ferrari, Mattia Binotto (Sauber), now in charge of the Formula 1 project by Audi, who tackled Frédéric Vasseur. Indeed, the Italian confided that he would never have hired Lewis Hamilton in place of Carlos Sainz, if he had remained at the helm of the transalpine team. To which the Frenchman responded, scathingly.
F1: Vasseur sends Binotto back to the ropes
It’s in the pages of the media Corriere della Sera that Binotto spoke on the subject: “I wouldn’t have signed it, but he [Hamilton] made the right choice by going there, I agree with his decision. ”
For his part, the current boss of Ferrari responded with the malice that characterizes him, sending Mattia Binotto back in his place: “ I’m not sure Hamilton would have gone to Sauber! I’m glad so many people have the time to comment on our choices. I’m focused on our work, because when I was at Sauber I didn’t talk about Ferrari. ”
As a reminder, Lewis Hamilton will try to beat the record of seven F1 world championship titles that he co-holds with Michael Schumacher, starting next season. He will also have the complex mission of succeeding Kimi Raikkonen, the last Formula 1 world champion to have triumphed at the wheel of a Maranello single-seater. It was in 2007, 17 years ago already…
For his part, Carlos Sainz will join Williams Racing in 2025.
