The 2024 Formula 1 constructors' title will be decided between McLaren and Ferrari.
There was no longer much suspense and Max Verstappen confirmed it this weekend at the Las Vegas grand prix by becoming the third quadruple Formula 1 world champion after Alain Prost and Sebastian Vettel (only Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton is ahead of him in the number of titles now with their seven crowns, in addition to the legend Juan-Manuel Fangio and his five championships). It was enough for him to finish ahead of Englishman Lando Norris to be titledwhich he achieved on the streets of the American city behind the winner George Russell (Mercedes), his teammate Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz (Ferrari).
On the team side, on the other hand, the war remains very intense between three different manufacturers. McLaren is in the lead with 607 points ahead of Ferrari (584 points) and Red Bull (555 points) with only two races left this season. Barring a major turnaround, Red Bull is unlikely to retain its constructor's title this year after two seasons of absolute domination. Max Verstappen owes his title to the significantly better performances of the Red Bull during the first part of the season and his teammate Sergio Perez, often dropped, struggles to score big points.
McLaren or Ferrari?
In both cases, it will be a real small revolution in Formula 1 which had only seen Red Bull and Mercedes win the constructors' championship since 2010. McLaren has not been crowned since 2007 and Ferrari since 2008!
In addition to the points advantage on an accounting level, McLaren theoretically has a car more suited to the type of the Qatar circuit where Formula 1 must go next weekend. But the Scuderia has been posting surprising results quite regularly in recent races where we don't necessarily expect it and with so many points remaining to be taken, it would be very wrong to give the Woking team already champions.
