Guanyu Zhou has reacted to the fact that he will no longer be a Formula 1 starter next year. The Stake F1 driver admits it is a disappointment but nevertheless explains that he is happy to be able to step back and find another team to become a reserve driver.
“Although I would have liked to stay next season, I think it is the right time after the difficult races this year to look for a new chapter. I want to finish the season and there are discussions” Zhou said.
“I want to stay in F1, that's the priority and I'm looking for the right team in which to take the role of reserve. But nothing is defined because there is interest from several teams and I'm not in a hurry, I want to see what the plans are, the situations of the teams, and I will decide. There will be news soon, but not immediately.”
“When this happened, I was talking to several teams, and when it was announced, several other teams approached me, and that's good because I have several options. I have to work out the details with each team to know where I want to be. I'm excited for the future, but most of all for this weekend.”
The Chinese pilot explains what his strengths are and why he could benefit from a role as a reserve pilot: “I feel like I'm still young in this sport, but I have good experience, and there are a lot of rookie riders coming next year.”
“You never know if things will go well for them and it can open the market to have another chance. And after a very difficult season, it's good to take a year off the track, but nothing 'has been decided.”
