Alex Albon has thanked the Williams F1 team for their work since the Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos, where he and his teammate caused heavy damage to the cars. At Grove, the pace was very intense to get two cars back into shape.
“It's been a lot of hard work over the last few weeks. We know Vegas is the best chance we have to score points, and it's the first leg of the hat-trick of races so that made things difficult.” Albon said.
“In terms of pace, we could be fast but we were quite slow in the race. We had a lot of degradation, and we have to see the data to do better. There was more graining, but we think we have a good solution for that.”
The Thai explained how not competing in the race was mentally complicated: “The most difficult thing was to understand why the accident happened. We looked into the data and understood the reasons, we were able to move on. As far as the specifications are concerned, everything is the same.”
Franco Colapinto revealed that while the mechanics were hard at work fixing the cars, he and Albon worked on preparing for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, with colossal learning in the simulator.
“We have worked tirelessly since then. We did a lot of work in the simulator and it went well. We are better than ever together, it was a difficult weekend in Brazil but we are stronger, and the people at the factory did an incredible job” said Colapinto.
“It's been a long three weeks, but we needed it! We're trying to take advantage of the best opportunities we get until Abu Dhabi. I'm very grateful for the work that's been done and it's great to have cars here.”
While Gabriel Bortoleto has signed with Sauber, Colapinto does not yet seem worried about finding a place next year: “I'm not too sure what's going on for next year for me. Gabriel is a good guy, he's very fast and he deserves this turn. But obviously I hope we find somewhere to go.”
