Eddie Jordan thinks that Lando Norris is a very fast driver, but that he lacks the incisive side to seek success like Max Verstappen does. The former team principal believes that the McLaren F1 driver must work on his ability to impose himself at the start and in struggles.
“Lando is not quite ready yet” Jordan said. “He hasn't yet managed to win at the start, between pole position and the first corner. He has the speed. But there is nothing in me that tells me that I saw something in Lando that I saw Max could do on Sunday. I'm sorry, it's just not there.”
“So Lando needs to take a long look in the mirror this winter and say to himself, 'If I want to be a great world champion, I have a lot to learn, and I need to start watching these videos again about what it's really like. to be tough, tenacious and victorious' and I'm sorry, so far he hasn't.”
These statements took place in the podcast he shares with David Coulthard, and the Scot judged Jordan to be harsh: “My god Eddie, you are a difficult man.”. But Jordan explained that “it’s a fact, he didn’t turn it into a victory”.
Besides the fact that Norris should have “won more races” this year according to Jordan, Coulthard believes that the young driver is capable of being champion: “He should have won more because he didn't convert his poles and wasn't a master in the rain. But I think Lando is capable and will succeed in doing that.”
