big news for the first women’s division, Canal+ will broadcast matches

The FFR and the National League announced this Monday that they had reached an agreement with Canal+ for the broadcast of five matches this season, in addition to the final.

Good news for women’s rugby. Canal+ will broadcast several women’s first division rugby matches this season, the channel announced Monday with the French Federation (FFR) and the National Rugby League (LNR).

This is the first time that several matches in the same season will be commented on by Canal+. The last meeting dates back to January 2015, a few months after the World Cup in , with the Villeneuve d’Ascq – match.

This was made possible by an agreement between the federation, which organizes the Elite 1 championship, the channel and the LNR, which manages the men’s championship. “The agreement (…) provides for the broadcast over the 2024/2025 season of several event matches which will take place around a Top 14 poster from the same home club and in the same stadium”specifies the press release from the three organizations.

The first match, on Saturday November 2, will pit Clermont against Union -Bègles, the two finalists from last season, who crowned the UBB. Kick-off will be at 4:45 p.m., a little over two hours after the men’s teams meet. In total, five posters are planned, in addition to the final, specifies the FFR.

“One of our major challenges was also to make women’s rugby even more visible, accessible and attractive in France and to publicize it”welcomed Florian Grill, just re-elected president of the FFR, in the press release, seeing this “a decisive turning point for the exhibition” of the championship.
