Hungry for sport, he grew up to the sound of Formula 1 engines and the exploits of Ronaldinho. Today, with a Master’s degree in sports journalism, he no longer misses an F1 Grand Prix or a PSG match, his two passions and specialties.

For several years, the absence of Aymeric Laporte was the talk of the French team given his club performances. A situation which also pushed him to opt for the Spanish selection with which he won the Euro this summer. Asked to comment on his decision, Aymeric Laporte discusses his discussions with Didier Deschamps.

Long criticized for his choices, Didier Deschamps was particularly singled out for never having relied on Aymeric Laportewhich has long been very efficient with Manchester City. Tired of waiting to get his chance in the Blues, the central defender therefore chose to join the Spanish selection with whom he notably won the Euro this summer. And he does not regret his choice as he confided.

“It was more for personal relationships that didn’t work”

« If I went to the French team and didn’t go there afterwards, it was more because of personal relationships that didn’t work out. I couldn’t wait any longer than that. The years passed and, in the end, it was always the same coach. If I wanted to play international competitions, I had to make decisions. And I had to make this choice. Today I am very happy and I feel very good in this Spain team. It suits me, also in terms of personality », he blurted into the microphone of Rothen s’enflamme on RMC.

Exchanges “not necessarily been the sweetest” with Deschamps

Aymeric Laporte added a layer to justify his choice by pointing out his relationships with Didier Deschamps with which he “ had exchanges on several occasions which were not necessarily the sweetest “. European champion last summer with the Rojathe former defender of Manchester City assures, however, that this is now in the past: “ It’s over, I don’t even think about it anymore. Everyone goes their own way ».
