Formula 1 | Williams ‘improved performance’ in Singapore

Williams sporting director Sven Smeets admitted it was disappointing not to score a point in Singapore after showing promising pace all weekend. Franco Colapinto finished just outside the points, and Alex Albon retired.

“We were hoping to do better in Singapore because we had a strong car, so it’s a shame to leave without points” Smeets said. “After Franco’s only pit stop, we lost tenth place to Perez.”

“Franco stayed close to him and Hulkenberg but failed to score any points. Nevertheless, Franco had a good weekend in extremely difficult conditions for only his third Grand Prix and we are pleased with his performance.”

“As for Alex’s race, it’s always disappointing to have to retire with a car. We had some cooling problems but we have to evaluate that in the coming days.”

“It’s clear that we have improved the performance of the car thanks to the developments made in recent races, but we weren’t able to do everything right as a team this weekend to score points for the third time in a row.”

Williams would like to find some progress in the coming weeks before the final races of the season: “We will now take advantage of this little break in the calendar to analyse everything before the next triple-header of races because there is still a lot at stake.”
