This Sunday in Benidorm, Soren Bruyère Joumard was not sure of himself after his bad experience at the European Championship already on Spanish soil in Pontevedra where he finished 17th. “It was a course that I was dreading because it was of the same type as that of the European Championship where it didn't go very well. But the 17-year-old from Isère was finally at ease. “I liked it, I thought it wouldn't be as good as that. The circuit is quite fun and quick. We don't see this every day. It's very dry. There's a lot of grass, it's a bit slippery. In one part, there is a little mud but it is not annoying. It requires a lot of work on strategy because it works as a group. It was super cool, it was a good experience.” And for good reason, Junior 1 finished on the podium (see ranking). “I’m super happy, the sensations were perfect. I managed my race well. I didn't make any strategic mistakes. The Italian (Mattia Agostinacchio) was strong. He managed to escape when Théophile fell. Afterwards, we looked at each other a little. We didn't come far back at the end because we're doing a big last lap. But Mattia was very strong.”
At the end of this fourth round of the World Cup, Soren Bruyère Joumard is tied on points in the general classification with Mattia Agostinacchio but the Frenchman still retains his leadership tunic. “I wanted to keep my jersey. It’s done“. Next Sunday during the fifth and final act in Hoogerheide (Netherlands), this time he will have to not be beaten by his rival to win the World Cup. “I will try to keep it until the end. We'll see what we can do there. I watched the World Championship two years ago. It’s a great course, it’s going to be another great race.” Until then, he will be training over the next few days with the French team around the Iberian locality. “We’re going to have a big, fairly physical week to test our limits and have fun in the sun.”
