Once the line was crossed, Lilou Aguirre Lavin did not need to look for long where her supporters had positioned themselves, behind the barriers, where a sign could read “Allez ma Lilou”, in the hands of her sister ( see photo below). Her family was waiting to congratulate her on having achieved a Top 15 for her first participation in a cyclo-cross World Cup round (see ranking). “I'm super happy, I didn't know what to expect because I had never raced in a World Cup. I had an average start, I was in the last ones. But I didn't panic “rejoices Lilou Aguirre Lavin a few moments after finishing.
Junior 1 was far from imagining achieving this performance last Sunday. “I didn't expect it at all, I was already aiming for the Top 25, I told myself that that would already be good. Now, that's great”. Especially since his departure did not give him hope for a very good outcome. “I'm not very comfortable at the starts, I don't like to rub too much so I let myself go a little, but I recovered well”. As the rounds go by, Lilou Aguirre Lavin manages to get back into the match. “Little by little there were a lot of falls in front. I tried to be technically clean and it worked. I really liked the course, it's quite physical, quite fun to ride”.
Making your first at a high level in France, and with the result at the end, there is reason to be enthusiastic. “We're encouraged from everywhere, it's great. I hadn't necessarily checked the date because I had a bit of a complicated start to the season, so it wasn't necessarily in my calendar. I wasn't physically prepared for this race but it did it”. After health concerns during the mountain bike season, the Laval Cyclisme 53 licensee is getting back on track. “Now it's better. I'm very happy with my season, after a 5th place overall in the Coupe de France, it's mission accomplished. Now why not the World Championship after France”. And once again, this will be a first in France.
