It all started badly this Sunday for Matéo Jot. He first missed his pedal at the start of the fourth round of the Coupe de France Espoirs de cyclo-cross, contested in Pierric. “I found myself in the juice. Nathan Bommelel also missed his start. He wanted to come back strong and went inside. I'm not here to let it happen. I didn’t even see it was him, I pushed my elbow away and we both fell”reports, to DirectVelo, the member of Team CX TPM.
While the French Champion had to run again on foot next to his machine, Matéo Jot began a crazy comeback. “In the first lap, I had no choice to overtake. I had to be a little naughty, I took the interiors. I told myself I was going to put everything I had into it and see where it took me.”. After one lap, he crossed the line in 41st position, 40 seconds behind the leading peloton. “The circuit was faster than yesterday, that scared me because to close ten seconds is very complicated. But I was able to overtake people and it lasted until the end”.
“LONG FOR THE NEXT”
Like the day before, he managed to get on the third step of the podium (see ranking). “I am very happy, I can only take positives. Today (Sunday), I was driving faster than the first at one point”. When hot, he still regretted the fall at the start of the race, which he believed was avoidable. “I have great respect for Nathan Bommelel but when you are strong, there is no point in doing an interior like he did. The proof, I started 40th and managed to finish 2nd”.
A very good omen. “Can’t wait for the sequel”. Matéo Jot will continue with the cyclo-cross of Gernelle, organized by his teammate Timothé Gabriel, before going, “an hour from home”for the Coupe de France in Troyes. “For the rest of my season, it’s in the hands of François Trarieux”.
