Cycling: here is why the Look Crit and the Look Road, organized in Nièvre, will not take place in 2024

The Look Crit and the Look Road will not take place on Saturday October 12 and Sunday October 13. The organizers aspire to evolve the format for a return in 2025.

It went unnoticed: The Look Crit and the Look Road, which still appear today on the Burgundy-Franche-Comté League racing calendar, will not take place on Saturday October 12 and Sunday October 13. In fact, the 2024 edition has not been relevant for several months and the organizers have never communicated about it. Explanations.

premium Paralympic Games: seven medals on the clock for the Nivernais company Look Cycle International

“We had pre-submitted the date to ensure that we obtain the slot, subject to obtaining all the necessary authorizations”, explains Antoine De Wilde, boss of the French Run, organizer of the meeting with the CC Varennes -Vauzelles, as a support club, and the Look Cycle company. “But behind that, we haven’t confirmed it. The Look remained at the stage of forecast events. We decided to work on a new format for 2025.”

Two accidents in 2023

For what ? “We have been looking at what exists for two or three years, taking into account feedback from volunteers and participants,” continues Antoine De Wilde. “We realized that the format was perhaps no longer suited to our territory. Sending cyclists over 150 km is not trivial. With Look and the CCVV, we have not found a recipe for making the event ultra-secure. »

The last edition, in May 2023, was confronted with two minor accidents involving cyclists on the Look Road, near Billy-Chevannes.

The organizers had proposed three formats: the Look Gravel (50 and 120 km), the Look Crit, a race on a 1 km closed circuit in the city center of , with an elimination system (for road bike and fixed gear) and the Look Road with three cyclosportive courses (60, 100 and 150 km). “The Crit is attractive, but it is a niche in terms of participation. This requires extreme handling for the organization and city services. » And Antoine De Wilde concludes. “Perhaps we need to be less dispersed. But we are not abandoning the Look. »
