Contactless payment has gained many followers since its launch and is still evolving in 2024. One improvement in particular should make this payment method even easier.

Launched in 2012, contactless payment has continued to evolve and attract many followers, especially since the Covid-19 health crisis. Indeed, contactless payment is speed, ease and above all efficiency.

If it was only possible to pay a maximum amount of 50 euros since 2020 with this method, this will soon no longer be relevant… Indeed, this ceiling can gradually be exceeded if we follow the banks’ protocol .

Initially, that is to say at its launch, contactless payment was limited to only 20 euros, before being increased to 30 euros in 2017, until reaching 50 euros in 2020. Now, the “Contactless Plus” functionality is tending to become established, as explained on the Société Générale website.

A more secure technique

Contactless payments are becoming more widespread, particularly through mobile phones. Since 2022, 60% of payments have been made contactless, a particularly high percentage since the pre-Covid period.

However, many people want to stick with their card. So, beyond 50 euros, you will just have to place your bank card on the TPE as before, but you will still have to enter your secret code. A technique that would remain fluid, while maintaining a certain security. However, merchants will have to equip themselves with new TPEs or an update.
