Chart: France has the highest incidence rate of breast cancer in the world

Pink October is an annual global campaign that aims to raise awareness about breast cancer screening. Launched in 1985, this campaign also raises funds for research against this cancer, the most common in women. According to the ARC Foundation for Cancer Research, more than 61,000 women in are affected by breast cancer each year, and the disease causes more than 12,000 deaths per year, making it the leading cause cancer mortality among women.

As shown in our infographic, based on data from the World Health Organization, mainland France had the highest incidence rate of breast cancer in the world in 2022: 105.4 cases per 100,000 people. Next came Cyprus, with an incidence rate of 104.8 cases per 100,000 people, followed by Belgium (104.4). However, despite high incidence rates, the breast cancer mortality rates of the countries included in this graph remained relatively low, ranging from 11 to 18.6 deaths per 100,000 people. Conversely, despite lower incidence rates, the highest breast cancer mortality rates were recorded in Fiji (38.9 per 100,000), Jamaica (35.2) and the Bahamas (31 ,7), a phenomenon which is undoubtedly explained by more limited access to health care.
