Jane’s Addiction apologises and cancels upcoming concert

-

“We would like to extend our sincere apologies to our fans for the events that took place last night,” the members of the group Jane’s Addiction posted on Instagram on Sunday, September 15.

The day before, two members of the American alternative rock band, who were performing in Boston for a reunion concert, came to blows. In a video shared on social media, we see singer Perry Farrell advancing, looking threatening, towards guitarist Dave Navarro, who is visibly surprised, then striking him, before being grabbed by the two members of the group.

Among the many people who commented on the incident on social media, Liam Gallagher, who has himself fought frequently with his brother Noel, wrote: “Their attitude sucks”. To an Oasis fan who wrote: “It’s you and Noel after 3 shows”, he replied: “I don’t think so. We’re very professional now, and we’re going to blow your mind”.

“Perry has lost his mind”

Perry Farrell’s wife, Etty Lau Farrell, posted a lengthy message on Instagram on Saturday, trying to explain what happened on stage. “It’s clear that there was a lot of tension and animosity between the members,” she first emphasizes.

“Perry’s frustration grew and grew as night after night he felt like the volume on stage was extremely high and his voice was drowned out by the band’s.”

“Perry suffered from tinnitus and a sore throat every night,” she continues. “But when the audience in the front row started complaining to Perry and swearing at him that the band was playing too loud and they couldn’t hear him, Perry lost it.”

In its apology message, the group added that as a result of this incident, the concert it was due to give this Sunday in Bridgeport, Connecticut, has been cancelled.

American tour

The band has many other dates to honor in September and October, in several American and Canadian cities. They are thus expected in Toronto, on September 18, in Chicago on the 24th and in Denver on October 2. These concerts are for the moment maintained.

The band, formed in 1985, has split and reunited several times over the past four decades, in 1997, 2001, 2004 and 2008. Their latest album, The Great Escape Artist was released in 2011.

In May 2024, the band reformed for the first time with original members Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Eric Avery, and Stephen Perkins since 2010.
