Several thousand protesters supporting former President Jair Bolsonaro took to the streets on Saturday, September 7, in São Paulo for Independence Day. Surrounded by his supporters dressed in yellow and green, the colors of the national flag, the former far-right leader called ” dictator ” the Supreme Court judge who ordered the suspension of the social network X. A decision that launched the debate on freedom of expression.

More sparse than in the past, the far-right rally crossed Paulista Avenue, the emblematic artery of the largest megalopolis in Latin America, on the occasion of the national independence day, and one month before the municipal elections in Brazil. The slogans of this rally were the defense of the ” democracy » and the « freedom “, but also the dismissal of Judge Alexandre de Moraes, which last week blocked access in Brazil to the platform belonging to Elon Musk.

« We must put a stop to those who exceed the limits of our Constitution “, chanted the ex-president of the extreme right Bolsonaro, perched on a platform. He then mentioned the request for impeachment against Judge Moraes which should be filed Monday in the Senate by right-wing parliamentarians. This approach, the outcome of which is currently very uncertain, is supported by publications by Elon Musk.

Saturday’s demonstration had been called even before the suspension of X, a privileged arena for an ultra-polarized debate in Brazil.
