The owner of a huge English mansion accuses his former tenant, the singer Adèle, of having suggested that the house was haunted, making its sale impossible.
Lock House is a former convent nestled in the green countryside of West Sussex, England. However, the owner of this magnificent residence, listed as a world heritage site and built in the middle of a park sheltering “deer, mature oaks, cedars, Scots pines and lime trees”, has not been able to sell it for years. And, according to him, this failure has someone responsible: the singer Adele who rented it and lived there for six months in the early 2010s.
The star did not commit any irreparable material damage but she would have dissuaded potential buyers by revealing in an interview with CBS that the vast residence was full of… ghosts!, reports the “Guardian”. “This house is a bit cliché, actually. “It’s all really quite scary,” she told the TV crew, adding a reference to the cursed hotel from “The Shining.” The “Sun” hit the nail on the head with an article ensuring that the artist constantly heard noises that made her jump.

Far from being a selling point, this haunting mentioned by Adele would have “devastated the property”. But according to him, the buyer gave up when he learned that he would have to share his accommodation with ghosts.

The owner therefore decided to transform the immense mansion which has “a cinema room, a billiard room, a swimming pool, a tennis court and a summer pavilion” into a residential complex consisting of three houses and a cottage.
To undertake this important work on a historic building, he had to request authorization from the district council which granted it, apparently convinced by his supernatural arguments. But the possibility that the price asked by the seller could have been more frightening than a cohort of ghosts does not seem to have been taken into consideration…
