Anderlecht are preparing to face Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League. In the absence of Kasper Dolberg, all eyes are on Luis Vazquez, who is however struggling to win at Lotto Park, placing Olivier Renard in a serious dilemma.
Some time ago, it was rumored that the Brussels club would be looking for a new striker, among others, in January. However, just as the search for a left back in defense was likely abandoned after the arrivals of Adryelson and Lucas Hey, it increasingly appears that this route has also been abandoned in the meantime.
Fredberg’s legacy
A year and a half ago, his predecessor Jesper Fredberg put some five million on the table to poach the 23-year-old Argentinian from Boca Juniors, his country of origin. A price that Vazquez, with ten goals and three assists in 74 appearances, has not really managed to justify.
Vazquez must compete up front with Dolberg, but even when the Argentine has his chance, he often disappoints. Like in the last matches.
-Vazquez about to leave?
In the Czech Republic, David Hubert has no choice but to play his card again. According to Het Nieuwsblad, this is unlikely to change in the near future, as the newspaper believes that it is unlikely that any team would be willing to rid Anderlecht of de Vazquez for the 5 million paid at the time.
“Who will accept such a price today, even if Renard has good contacts in MLS. No one in any case,” we can read. The RSCA is therefore only ready to part ways with Vazquez, hired until mid-2028, if it recovers its investment. Renard is crossing his fingers that he manages to win in Plzen.
Dolberg’s successor
Finally, for essentially budgetary reasons, his departure seems to be a necessary condition for the arrival of a new Dolberg understudy, which seems to be the intention sooner or later anyway. The newspaper does not rule out that Renard is already anticipating a summer departure for the Danish star striker.
