Harris Dickinson: ‘I was excited but also scared’

Harris Dickinson is making a lot of noise with his new film, “Babygirl”, in theaters on January 15, 2025. Normally, the 28-year-old English hunk stars opposite Nicole Kidman in this erotic thriller with a BDSM background which evokes “Fifty Shades of Grey” in the post-#MeToo era.

The Briton plays Samuel, a young intern who fantasizes about the CEO of the company where he has just been hired. Romy, played by the 57-year-old Australian actress, is an assertive woman and fulfilled mother, but sexually frustrated despite a loving husband. This unlikely couple embarks on a game of domination and submission, where Romy risks losing everything by obediently obeying her lover.

“When Samuel meets her, he senses that she is not satisfied and begins by gently piercing her defenses to test her reaction. He then understands that a person who occupies such a position of power and is surrounded by people who obey him with their finger and eye needs the opposite,” the actor explains to us during a press conference. Made outdated by feminist struggles, this kind of scenario is difficult to swallow today, even if it is the fruit of the imagination of a filmmaker like the Dutch Halina Reijn. “I was excited to play with Nicole, but also scared because I didn’t know how to approach it all. At the same time, I liked the fact that there was humor and nuances in the story,” confides the actor. Revealed as a lost teenager who flirts on the web with older men in “The Beach Bums”, the blue-eyed Londoner also distinguished himself as a brainless model in the Palme d’Or “Without Filter” and as a Disney prince in “Maleficent: The Power of Evil.”

A sex symbol in spite of himself, this son of a social worker and a hairdresser who was thinking of joining the Royal Navy, has more than one string to his bow. After directing music videos for his partner, English singer Rose Gray, the budding director recently completed filming on his first film. We should also soon find him in the shoes of John Lennon, under the direction of Sam Mendes. We haven’t heard the last of Harris Dickinson.
