Who will succeed Zaho de Sagazan and his four statuettes during the 40th Victoires de la Musique on February 14? An artist very logically stands out from the nominations revealed this Monday evening in Paris. It is Santa, the former singer of the group Hyphen Hyphen, who will arrive as a favorite at the musical Seine with four selections (female artist, album, original song and concert) for her first record and her first solo concerts.
Clara Luciani, the electro duo Justice and Alyocha Schneider arrive just behind her with three selections each. Zaho de Sagazan is still featured in two categories, “female artist” and “concert”, which is not surprising given her particularly successful and intense year, from the Cannes Film Festival to the closing ceremony of Paris 2024.
Rap becomes more discreet
At the end of a less rich year for French musical creation, diversity is in decline with 16 different artists nominated, compared to 25 last year. Rap shines less, as in sales, with only three artists nominated in the nine categories: Gims and Tiakola, selected twice (artist of the year and album of the year) and the Belgian revelation Shay, who actually made his mark 2024 with a series of stunning concerts, from We Love Green to the Zénith in Paris.
Some notable and appreciable surprises. First the presence of Yseult in the premier category. She, who says she is snubbed by France, will not be able to say the same about Victoires, who have already recognized her as a revelation in 2021 and are praising her new opus, “Mental”, released in September 2024.
The ceremony confirms the return to favor of Alain Chamfort who, at 75 years old, is nominated in two categories for his album and the video for “La Grace”, two of our favorites. We also appreciate that the four ceremonies of the Olympic and Paralympic Games appear among the best concerts of the year because, from Céline Dion to the electro party at the Stade de France, they have put music at the very forefront.
-The revelations are entirely logical. Among the men, Pierre Garnier, Alyocha Schneider and Lucky Love, revelation of the Paris 2024 Olympics, all three made their mark last year. Among young singers, there are three names less established in the minds, but which have gained momentum in recent months: the dark and captivating Solann, cited for her concerts but also for her formidable song “Rome”, the charismatic star from the Styleto networks, who will release a record in the spring and perform at the Zénith de Paris in December, and the hard-hitting and committed Yoa, whose first collection is expected on January 31.
Souchon honorary president
Like last year, this anniversary edition will take place at the Seine musicale, in Boulogne-Billancourt (Hauts-de-Seine), and will be hosted by the duo Léa Salamé and Cyril Féraud who, in our memory, did well in their first. For the forty years of the Victoires, Alain Souchon agreed to be the honorary president of the evening, and a Victory of Honor will be awarded to Eddy Mitchell, who is back on stage this summer. For the first time, a nominees’ dinner will take place a few days before the ceremony.
Satisfied with the new voting system they put in place last year and the diversity of winners that emanated from it, the president of Victoires, Vincent Frèrebeau, and the committee decided to maintain it. Like last year, a panel of 882 voters chose ten names in each category from the large selection of artists and works broadcast in 2024. This preselection is then passed through the sieve of 32 music professionals, including 8 artists, chosen because they are obviously not in the running.
