In his book entitled My pregnancy saved my lifepublished in September 2024 by Editions Leduc, Virgilia Hess returned to her breast cancer, her motherhood and the difficulty of coping with this overwhelming period of his life. The BFMTV weather journalist is 6 months pregnant when she sees her life change in 2023 when she had just had a routine pregnancy check-up which revealed that she had breast cancer. This brutal announcement marked the start of a trying battle, mixing motherhood and illness, as she confided on several occasions. In an interview for the Rose Up association, she confided last October: “When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I had been in this dynamic for 6 months where everyone was asking about my babywanted to know what the sex was, if we had found the first name, it was only positive things and suddenly, like that, I am told about this cancer and we have the impression that this is what comes to the fore.”.

She then added: “I had this feeling that cancer was completely stealing my pregnancy”. In an interview with Radio JM, the journalist once again spoke on the subject on Friday January 10. At Sylvie Zerbib’s microphone, she explained in particular how her daughter Léna-Rose, born in March 2023, had allowed her to survive her difficult period of fighting cancer. “Illness was new to me, motherhood too. At that point, I was stopped because otherwise it was not manageable. Gradually, we learn. It was especially her who, without knowing it, helped me keep my head above water“, she fondly remembered. PI added: “When I saw her smile at me or when I played with her, I forgot that I was sick. She managed to infuse me with all her energy. Actually, it was the life I saw when I looked at it”.

Cancer treatments have left after-effects…

Last June, Virgilia Hess announced that she was in remission before revealing, in January 2025, that her chemotherapy treatment was not without consequences on her daily life… Indeed, on Instagram, she explained that the numerous treatments she had to follow weakened her body and she suffered from infection and broken bones. A good lung infection and broken ribs to start the year off right”, she announced. And to provide some clarification for those who might have questions: “Don’t ask me what happened, the answer is: nothing. Apart from an incessant cough for a month despite antibiotics and ribs completely weakened by radiotherapy, the coughing fits were enough to fracture them ”.
