Los Angeles knows no respite: fanned by powerful winds on Wednesday, the flames which hit the city of Angels increased in intensity.
At least five dead
The toll is already heavy: at least five dead, and 100,000 people asked to evacuate their homes as quickly as possible. At the forefront, the luxurious neighborhoods of Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Malibu… where many very rich celebrities live.
But fortune is useless in the face of the advance of fire – just like force: Mark Hamill, famous for his character of Luke Skywalker in the “Star Wars” saga, announced on Instagram that he had to leave his house on Tuesday in Malibu.
Mark Hamill takes refuge with his daughter
“Evacuated from Malibu so last minute that there are small fires on both sides of the road,” he wrote. He specifies that he arrived an hour and a quarter later at his daughter Chelsea’s house, in Hollywood, with his wife Marilou and their dog Trixie.

“There’s nothing left. I saw our house go to ashes, helpless in the face of the flames which took everything away. This video haunts my heart. It wasn’t just a house…It was our refuge, our rebirth after the chaos of grief. […] This house was our refuge in the chaos of grief, our anchor when everything seemed to be falling apart. Everything has disappeared… and with it, a part of my soul,” she insists.
Other French person concerned: Patrick Bruel. His ex-wife Amanda Sthers explained this Thursday in Télématin that she does not know what happened to her house, but thinks that it “probably disappeared in the flames”. His own home, in Hollywood, further east, is also threatened.
Ben Affleck, James Woods…
Many other personalities also had to evacuate their luxurious homes: John Goodman, Anthony Hopkins, Milles Teller, Mandy Moore, Paris Hilton and even Ben Affleck also saw their properties affected by these fires.
Mandy Moore shared a video of her evacuation:

These fires also disrupted the cinema industry since several film and series shoots were stopped and many events such as filming or Oscar nominations and the Critics Choice Awards ceremony were canceled and postponed.
A powerful fire fanned by the wind
The fire broke out late Tuesday morning, January 7, in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood, in the mountains northwest of the city. It now threatens the Hollywood district, the center of which is being evacuated.
The flames began to devour the hills on Wednesday evening, very close to Hollywood Boulevard and the famous Chinese Theater. Another fire also broke out in the evening in the neighboring Studio City district.
Lush vegetation
Thousands of buildings have already been destroyed, across hundreds of hectares of the City of Angels. The winds currently blowing are typical for California’s fall and winter, but this year they reached an intensity rarely seen.
California is coming off two very rainy years, which resulted in lush vegetation. Dried up by an abnormally dry winter, it quickly ignited, giving rise to one of the worst fires that California has known.
