“The Island: L’île du bagne” (M6): Why Carine Galli had to abandon the adventure even before the first day of filming

On the starting line for the new season of “The Island”, which began this Tuesday, January 7 on M6, there were 10 of them. But after only a few presentation images of the candidates, all well known to the general public, the first turn of events. There will ultimately only be 9 of them participating in this extraordinary adventure, which will lead them to draw on their deepest resources. The reason? One of the 10 celebrities announced for the casting, Carine Galli, was injured at the hotel just before leaving for “the penal colony”, where filming was to begin.

A failed walk and a triple ankle fracture

Sports journalist Carine Galli, who works on M6 and the L'Équipe channel, missed a step and her ankle turned. If the candidate initially refused to give up, the verdict, without appeal, did not allow her to take part in the adventure. The host in fact suffered from a triple fracture of the ankle, incompatible with the requirement of such an experience. The 10 candidates must indeed follow a route strewn with pitfalls on the Thai island of Ko Tarutao to reach the exfiltration point in 10 days which will mark the end of their adventure. “It was 40 degrees minimum, 100% humidity“, explained the producer of the show Jean-Louis Blot (president of Endemol ), who speaks of a “green hell“. “They had to cross the mangrove and the jungle to reach the extraction point“, added Pierre-Guillaume Ledan, director of streaming programs at M6.

The filming was cut short for Carine Galli, who confided at a press conference that she had “wanted to know nothing“from previous seasons.”There were some who seemed to be very prepared. Lucie (Bertaud) had learned to make a fire, Daniela (Capone) already had a bit of an adventurous mentality… I have never seen an episode of 'The Island'. And I don't think it was the best idea“, she added with a smile.

An eclectic cast and first tensions

This first evening allowed viewers to meet the candidates for this new season of the adventure game, which for the first time includes a traveling route. The former Miss France Nathalie Marquay (57 years old), the actor Patrick Puydebat (52 years old), the influencer Daniela Capone (27 years old), the ex-Miss and television host Delphine Wespiser (32 years old), the boxer and former “Koh-Lanta” candidate Lucie Bertaud (39 years old), ex-professional footballer Sydney Govou (44 years old), model Terence Telle (32 years old), the former athlete Pierre-Ambroise Bosse (31 years old), the antique dealer and television host Julien Cohen (57 years old) took their first steps on the island, accompanied by Loury Lag, the new presenter of the show.

And from their “drop” off the beach where they will spend their first hours, the tone was set. Julien Cohen didn't really play as a team and decided to take matters into his own hands, causing some misunderstandings among his fellow adventurers. Will they succeed in showing the solidarity and mutual assistance necessary to achieve their objective together despite hunger, thirst, difficult weather conditions, injuries, etc.? Answer in the next episodes.
