A fashion magazine described her beauty as a national treasure. So much so that beverage giant Asahi Breweries relied on Ryo Yoshizawa to advertise a low-alcohol beer.
But the contract between the two parties came to an end. Ironically, the company said it had fired the popular actor in Japan… for drunkenness. The 30-year-old man allegedly broke into a neighbor’s house under the effects of alcohol while trying to return home on December 30.
“These actions are unacceptable”
“I don’t remember anything. I think I entered without asking, because I wanted to use the toilet,” the person told police, according to local media. He was “drunk” and “accidentally broke into an apartment located next to his,” his talent agency Amuse admitted in a statement on Monday.
“We have decided to end our contract” with this actor, Shiori Shimizu, spokesperson for Asahi Group Holdings, told AFP on Tuesday. “As an alcohol company, we consider these actions unacceptable. We will not use it in our advertisements in the future,” she added.
Ryo Yoshizawa apologized to his surprised neighbor for the “major inconvenience he caused,” Amuse said, adding that the actor had already moved out.
As elsewhere, alcohol consumption is declining in Japan and low-alcohol or no-alcohol beers, or even abstinence, are gaining popularity, particularly among young people.
