“The world seemed to be falling apart and people were just deeply unhappy with their own lives,” he said. “And then comes this salacious story where this actor wants to murder and eat people. And all of a sudden everyone’s like, ‘Oh, it’s so much more fun to focus on that than the fact that I’m not I can’t leave my living room.”

The actor also claims that sentences pronounced “with humor” or “under the influence” of different substances were taken out of context. “If someone took a person’s intimate conversations – especially during a naughty moment – even if it was completely vanilla, out of context, everyone is going to be like, ‘You guys are fucking disgusting.’

If Armie Hammer has always denied the accusations made against him, he did not hesitate to take advantage of the podcast to make some confidences about his own tastes in matters of sexuality, and in particular about his passion for bondage. After specifying that he likes to tie up his partners, and having practiced on a mannequin bought in a store, he explains: “I like the idea of my partners being completely mine. I can do anything, and you will love it because you know you’re mine.”

He added: “And this kind of possession thing, it’s just fun to talk about. And, by the way, especially if you’re drunk or high and you’re texting. While you’re saying that, you’re laughing internally, like, I’m going to cut off your toe and keep it in my pocket so I have a piece of you everywhere I go.” All while being perfectly aware that this type of sentence can be taken out of context.

In his podcast, however, the actor spoke of his desire to reclaim the accusations against him: “I’m not going to lie, I like cannibal stuff now. I just say to myself: ‘Hey, I’m a cannibal.” He was pleased with the attention the case had brought him: “Which is louder? ‘Armie Hammer is a cannibal’ or ‘Armie Hammer may not be a cannibal.’ (…) Someone says something about you, everyone believes it and then people move on with their lives.”
