The famous Portuguese technician José Mourinho has had many adventures in his career and he has just announced the biggest regret of his career.
At the age of 61, José Mourinho has experienced various fortunes during his thrilling career. From FC Porto to Fenerbahce via Real Madrid or even Chelsea, “Le Special One”impacted European football.
Despite this extraordinary journey marked by the victory of several trophies, the Portuguese technician admitted to having a very big regret.
“Saying no to Florentino Perez was one of my biggest regrets. He told me: don’t leave now, you’ve done the hardest part and the best is yet to come. But I wanted to come back to Chelsea after 3 difficult years in Spain”he told CorSport.
José Mourinho and his atypical career
It was in the costume of a rising star that José Mourinho arrived in England at Chelsea. He had just surprised Europe by winning the Champions League with FC Porto in 2004. At the head of the Blues, he confirmed the expectations of his management and put an end to Arsenal’s hegemony over the Premier League.
He then left for Real Madrid to take on a big challenge, that of winning the 10th Champions League for the club. Real Madrid had just suffered real consecutive setbacks in the round of 16 of the competition.
José Mourinho then broke the curse that had hung over the club for years. Indeed, Real Madrid has not been able to get past the round of 16 since 2006. But over the three seasons spent at the club, “Le Special One”managed to reach the semi-final three times. However, he was unable to reach the final with his group.
Despite the trophies won, José Mourinho decided to throw in the towel at the end of the 2011-2012 season. It was in fact after yet another defeat in the semi-final against Bayern Munich that the Portuguese left the Merengue ship.
He went to Italy to play for Inter Milan. He finally won his second Champions League with the Nerazzurri at the end of the 2012-2013 season. With players like Samuel Etoo and Diego Milito in his group, “Le Special One”finally conquered Europe.
He then had stints at English clubs such as Tottenham and Man United. He then went to Italy to join AS Roma. Currently, José Mourinho is on the bench of Turkish club Fenerbahce.
